What is Jacob’s syndrome?

Jacob’s syndrome affects only males and is a genetic condition which is characterised as an additional Y chromosome being present in all cells.


What are the characteristics of Jacob’s syndrome?

In general most men afflicted with Jacob’s syndrome will live their entire lives without being aware that they carry this genetic modification. There are limited physical differences and most people continue their lives unaware.However the mild differences may include the following characteristics:
  • Poor muscle tone
  • Inability to grow facial hair
  • Learning and development difficulties
  • Low testosterone levels
  • Taller than average

What are the treatment options for Jacob’s syndrome?

Jacob’s syndrome cannot be cured and there is no standard treatment available. However, what many men do is opt to seek help and treatment for individual problems such as a fertility specialist, speech therapist and learning and behavioural specialist.
