The research is being carried out at The Centre for Dentistry and Oral Hygiene, at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. It is designed to support a recently published study into the effects of dentin on the mineralisation of human MSCs.<\/p>\n
According to the study, components found in dentin called \u201cdEMCs\u201d can be used to significantly improve the mineralisation of Umbilical Cord and Dental Pulp MSCs. In other words, stem cells have the ability to generate bone-like minerals when directed towards the osteo (bone) lineage. During the study, researchers also found that viability and proliferation of the cells were dependent on the dosage of \u201cdEMSc\u201d which means they can be custom made to suit needs of the environment.<\/p>\n
These encouraging findings will aid the development of stem cell-based therapies for tissue regeneration. This is why Future Health Biobank was keen to support the ongoing research and development by donating umbilical cord MSC samples*. In return, it is hoped that findings from the University of Groningen will benefit current and future clients who store their stem cells with Future Health.<\/p>\n
