El avance podr\u00eda acercarnos a una cura para la diabetes tipo 1.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>La insulina es la hormona responsable de regular los niveles de glucosa y az\u00facar en la sangre. Sin embargo, las c\u00e9lulas productoras de insulina se destruyen en pacientes con diabetes tipo 1 lo que provoca complicaciones que pueden incluso causar da\u00f1os graves en los \u00f3rganos, como insuficiencia renal o ictus.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora, y a pesar de haber intentado replicar estas c\u00e9lulas en el laboratorio, los cient\u00edficos no hab\u00edan logrado programar las c\u00e9lulas madre en c\u00e9lulas beta maduras, por lo que no respond\u00edan adecuadamente a la glucosa en sangre y a secretar insulina. Sin embargo, los cient\u00edficos de la Universidad de San Francisco han encontrado una soluci\u00f3n. Cultivaron c\u00e9lulas madre pluripotentes utilizando un proceso totalmente nuevo.<\/p>\n<p>Al separar artificialmente las c\u00e9lulas madre pancre\u00e1ticas y transformarlas en grupos similares a \u00abislotes\u00bb, el desarrollo de las c\u00e9lulas dio un salto adelante. Respondieron al az\u00facar en sangre y produjeron insulina en unos d\u00edas, como lo har\u00edan las c\u00e9lulas maduras productoras de insulina, de una manera nunca vista antes en un laboratorio.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora, los investigadores de la Universidad de San Francisco est\u00e1n trabajando en terapias regenerativas para la diabetes tipo 1 utilizando estas c\u00e9lulas madre, que se espera eliminen la necesidad de los trasplantes de p\u00e1ncreas.
