Triple X syndrome is a genetic condition only present in females and is characterised as an additional X chromosome in each cell. It is believed that around 1 in every 1000 females born in the UK will be affected.
What are the characteristics of Triple X syndrome?
People afflicted with Triple X syndrome generally show no marked physical difference and the characteristics of the condition are often mild. Consequently, the condition often goes undiagnosed.
However, some characteristics that may be present include:
- Being taller than average
- Having a small head
- Vertical skin folds covering the corner of the eye
- Speech and language learning disabilities
What are the treatment options for Triple X syndrome?
Since the condition is rarely diagnosed and the symptoms shown in an individual are often mild, there is no standard therapy for treating Triple X syndrome.Want to learn more about the other conditions that are screened for with the Vision prenatal test?
