Future Health backs tooth dentin regeneration research
Published on: 1st October 2025Future Health Biobank Supports Pioneering Research into Tooth Dentin Regeneration
Future Health Biobank has provided ethically sourced umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to support breakthrough research on tooth dentin and bone regeneration. This collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing regenerative dentistry for families in Qatar and worldwide.
Who’s Leading the Research?
The project is being conducted by the Centre for Dentistry and Oral Hygiene at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). It builds on a recent study investigating how components from dentin influence the mineralisation of human MSCs.
What Did the Study Find?
Researchers report that dentin-derived extracellular matrix components (dEMCs) can significantly enhance the mineralisation potential of both Umbilical Cord and Dental Pulp MSCs—effectively directing them toward an osteogenic (bone-forming) lineage. The team also observed that cell viability and proliferation were dose-dependent on dEMCs, suggesting formulations can be tailored to the biological environment.
These insights strengthen the foundations for future stem cell–based dental tissue therapies, from reinforcing dentin to supporting bone regeneration.
Why It Matters for Families in Qatar
- Relevance: Regenerative dentistry is an emerging focus across the GCC. Findings like these bring us a step closer to next-generation dental care options for families in Qatar.
- Local readiness: Our Qatar-focused team supports parents considering newborn stem cell storage, aligning today’s decisions with tomorrow’s medical advances.
- Quality & ethics: Research samples are obtained with consent and are fully separate from client-stored samples, which remain exclusively reserved for each family.
Future Health Biobank’s Role
We contributed umbilical cord MSC samples to help accelerate this line of inquiry. In return, we anticipate that insights from Groningen will inform best practices and ultimately benefit current and future clients who choose to store their stem cells with us.
